Both Bold smart locks give you SKG★★★ certified security and let you activate the lock with your phone. You can share access through the Bold app and stay in control without physical keys. The Bold Elite is the newer model and includes extra features: you can see in the app whether your door is locked, receive smart alerts when the door is left unlocked (such as the Leave Alert), and use Battery Save Mode to keep the lock powered for up to eight years. The Bold Classic delivers the core smart access experience — fully keyless entry, reliable security and complete phone control. The Elite adds more insight, convenience and long-term efficiency.
The Bold Smart Lock fits Euro profile cylinder doors — the most common door cylinder type in South Africa. If your door has a standard key cylinder sticking out of the lock, it most likely fits. Check our compatibility guide or contact us and we will confirm for you.
Installation takes under 3 minutes — no tools, no drilling, no electrician needed. The Bold Smart Lock clips directly onto your existing key cylinder from the inside. Your door and outside appearance stay completely unchanged. Full instructions are in the box, and installation videos are available in the Bold app.
The Bold Smart Lock uses AES-128 encryption — the same standard used by banks and governments. Communication between the lock and your phone is encrypted end-to-end. Combined with SKG★★★ certification (the highest Dutch security rating), Bold is one of the most secure smart locks available.
The Bold Connect is a small Wi-Fi bridge that unlocks remote features: remote locking/unlocking from anywhere, live lock status, Leave Alert, Night Alert, Tamper Alert, scheduled lock times and access history. Without it, the lock still works perfectly via Bluetooth when you are nearby.
You will receive a low-battery notification in the Bold app well before the batteries run out. The lock uses 4 standard AA batteries — easy to find anywhere in SA. Even if completely flat, your backup PIN code means you will never be locked out.
Yes. The Bold Smart Lock handles South African summers, coastal humidity and cold highveld winters. It installs on the interior side of the door, protected from direct rain and UV.
Absolutely. The Bold Smart Lock runs entirely on AA batteries — no mains power needed. During load shedding, Bluetooth access works as normal. Remote features via Bold Connect need your router online, but your backup PIN and Bluetooth entry always work regardless of power outages.
Matter is the universal smart home standard supported by Apple, Google, Amazon and Samsung. Matter certification means the Bold Elite works seamlessly with Apple Home, Google Home, Homey and other Matter-compatible hubs — no bridges or workarounds needed.

Great lock, minor setup notes
The lock is great. Auto Entry is very convenient — walk up, turn the knob, you're in. Geolocation needed a small tweak in the app settings for our complex, but once adjusted it works perfectly. Bold Connect is only needed for remote features; Bluetooth-only use works fine without it.
